Lip Augmentation Patient using Restylane:
Some people are often very worried about what it will be like immediately after a Restylane injection. Here is a photo demonstrating Restylane approximately five minutes it has been injected into the upper lip for treatment of the fine lines sometimes referred to as "smoker's lines". Note that Restylane injection sites may have a small amount of bruising and temporary bleeding. For this reason, we like our patients to stay with us and hold pressure and ice the areas of the injection site for approximately 10 to 15 minutes after the injection.

These small pinholes heal over in 24 hours and makeup can be used the next day. Note that the Restylane has a nice effect in some of the wrinkles while others still remain. It is difficult to precisely determine before we attempt to fill a wrinkle whether or not the Restylane will "take" well at that particular wrinkle. Even though not every wrinkle is completely treated you can see there is only a generalized improvement of the entire wrinkling of the upper lip, not a cure of all wrinkles.

Restylane is not only used to augment the actual red part of the lip but also to fill in small wrinkles around the lips. Not all of the wrinkles "take" the Restylane as well as other ones. It is very difficult to predict which ones will take the best without just trying it.

In many cases, however, a little Restylane can fill in these lines sometimes referred to as "smoker's lines". These lines are caused by the use of the muscles that close the mouth and help us eat, talk, whistle, etc.

The procedure takes about ten minutes and can be done with either topical anesthesia (a cream we place on for about 30 minutes) or a block (like you get at the dentist's office). There is some swelling and redness for two to three days but most people go right about their business without any significant downtime.
